The City of Ashland is accepting applications for the position of
DIRECTOR OF ENGINEERING & UTILITIES Public Services Department Supervisor: City Manager Supervises: All Department Personnel Grade: 45 Class Characteristics: Under general executive direction, plans, organizes, directs, coordinates and evaluates all activities of the Department through the application of administrative and professional engineering knowledge and skills in the design, development, review and coordination of city construction and engineering operations within the department; performs related work as required.
General Duties and Responsibilities: Plans, organizes, directs, coordinates & evaluates the construction, operation & maintenance of operating properties of the municipal water & sewage treatment systems; prepares department budget and administers approved budget; responsible for all employment actions within the department; reviews all proposed construction projects within the city; approves design of water & sewer lines & other engineering projects; provides consultation & advice to City Planning Commission and Board of Zoning Adjustment in relation to engineering matters; supervises required mapping services for city departments; attend commission meetings & reports on departmental activities as requested; prepare plans and specifications for department equipment & construction contracts; inspects projects & trouble areas to determine what work is needed & how best to accomplish; & monitors contractors to insure specifications & approves projects upon completion.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college with a degree in Engineering (Civil Engineering preferred) supplemented by 7 years work experience, including 2 years administrative/supervisory experience. Masters degree preferred, but not required.
Certification/Licensing Requirements: Possession of a license to practice as a registered professional engineer and valid driver’s license. Registration as a land surveyor or civil or sanitary engineer in Kentucky is preferred, but not required.
Overtime Provision: Exempt
